PRIORY ROVERS 0-5 BURRIDGE AFC

Venue: Netley Country Park

Burridge recorded a comprehensive victory in Netley against Priory Rovers. Football is often said to be a simple game; unfortunately this concept is often betrayed through mistake and complication. Goalkeepers haven’t been allowed to handle back-passes since 1992, the rules were changed to stop yawn inducing passages of play less entertaining than tectonic plate movement. The back-pass is the banana skin of the modern game, if its objective is to provide goalkeeper with opportunity to launch the ball into the heavens to safety, then why don’t outfield players do so themselves thus eliminating the risk of humiliation.

The goalkeeper is a strange and unpredictable species, who hasn’t evolved sufficiently to deal with the ball with his feet. Take John Burridge, a goalkeeper for twenty-eight years for twenty clubs between 1968 and 1996. A man who when playing for Aston Villa in 1977, decided he wasn’t going to listen to Ron Saunders’ team-talk but walk onto the pitch on his hands to entertain the fans. A man who enthusiastically divulged his habit of watching Match of The Day in full goalkeeper kit and gloves – whilst in bed. A man clearly not far from being sectioned. These characters cannot be expected to deal with the back-pass; their genetic code passed down by the likes of Lev Yashin, Gordon Banks and Pat Jennings wants to pick up the ball.

The inconspicuous figure of John Hutton certainly won’t begrudge this weakness. The dreadlocked forward chased an errant back-pass and walked the ball into empty net. This was followed by a Jamie Hewitt special, he latched onto a clearance, pulled back his left foot and whiz-bang, it was two-nil. Burridge controlled the second half with Hewitt helping himself to a second; Greg Baker thumped home a penalty before Bryn Schwodler completed the rout.

4-3-3: Sam Schwodler, Jay Schwodler, Luke Sanderson, Mark Sanderson (Paul Dyke), Kev Willsher, Greg Baker, Mark Reeves (Nick Thomas), Steve Froud, John Hutton (Lee Fielder), Bryn Schwodler, Jamie Hewitt (Unused Subs: Paul Andrews, Matt Birks)

Nobody know where it came from, and I can't believe I forgot to mention 1) His failed Cruyff turn and 2) his short corner-kick, that knocked the corner flag skywards.

At present training will be at Burridge at around six. Hopefully Wildern will be repaired though, if it is we'll let you all know.

Well done boyz!!

Good 2 c even against weak opposition, we can keep pushing and keep the goals coming, very easy to get a couple and then loose the impetus or desire to really finish them off. (think england v any bag o' shite tiny country in the sven era.)
Also great that a number of different people are scoring, "goals from all over the pitch" is what we need for a long season.
Can I claim easiest goal of the season now? I thank you!

Special shout out to Kev and Reeves, who in my humble opinion played excellent, and no yellow cards for anyone! huzzah!

c u all wed night.

highlight of the game for me that, the corner flag went further than any ball jay kicked during the match!

villa are on sky on wednesday against scunthorpe or something weird like that, so i expect most people will want to stay home and watch it, surely?

nice to keep a clean sheet again boys and what's this...no arguing between us?? what is going on?!

luke, bring back dowi'

Good Result!

Challenging For The Title??

Well done lads, good result in the end. I really enjoyed captaining the side, although i know it is only temporary in Kristians absence. Lets carry it through to next week.

Over the course of a season, Kristian gets injured too much! Iceman...it's there for the taking. Grab the captaincy with both hands and never give it up. Like Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz and his 40-something year grip on the Cuban Presidency. Once you've tasted the sweet fruit of being Burridge's captain, you'll never want to let it go. You know you want it!

Emerson...if you try everything at least 10 times you will begin to like it. Be it the Captain's sweet fruits or the finest Caviar Russia has to offer.

You can take that as fact from the man who single handily sparked the worst riots LA has ever seen.

Put it in @ training Wednesday I will have my usual spies in the camp you know who they are!I suggest @ some stage in the evening you practice taking on corner flags as they can prove to be difficult opponents!! As you won on Saturday oranges are on me for match day, cant afford any win bonuses yet.Speak to you all in the week keep the good work up.the gaffer

Just to confirm that training will be at Burridge as near to six as you can make it.

Wildern couldn't confirm when pitch will be ready.

PS Bring some ideas, Pete isn't there so we'll have to think something up.

No game on the 7th of October.

Wilts, no game, what are your birthday plans? Give it some serious thought and make it one to remember!

You have got me thinking Brian, maybe now i should stick to my original plan which was to hit town the Friday night (6th october). Let me know everyone else's thoughts.

i suggest you work on some ball work backwards and forwards across the pitch as we know it is uneven in readiness for Sat.I hope to work on some set plays as well on Sat have a good session and I will be in touch

how about u make a small circle with cones u sprint into it and control a pass either with head chest thigh or feet_1 touch only and ball has to stay in the circle and 2nd touch will be the shot, this practice builds touch and quick shot capabilities in small space, good 4 shooting b4 goalkeeper is ready!!

Meeting Barrie at the ground tonight to sort out arrangements for Saturday.Could you get to the ground as soon as possible 1.30pm ish to put up nets and we may have to rope off the pitch?

Anonymous said...

try and talk him out of playing on it pete! its awful. people seem to think its got better over the past couple of seasons, but i dont think it has. the grass has been cut shorter, thats it. unless we get a £50,000 grant to do it properly, its a no-go!

we will have to rope the pitch off on saturday, otherwise our team will get fined. if i remember correctly, that is.

I'm sure i speak for everyone when i say trainig last night summed up the state of the pitch! it is going to be a game in which were not going to be able to play a passing game not only are there hundres of different sized bumps and dips. Now if the fact that we cant playt football on it isn't bad enough then the high chance of injury should be the decider again im sure i speak for everyone when i say were not covered with any insurance to play on council pitches (so i believe) so why risk a defeat and injurys for the sake of a game!!
Allotmant road?
Titchfield wreck?
2 pitches good enough to play on and im sure will be available??
untill the ground starts getting soft we could be risking serious ankle and foot injuries??
pete please try your best to switch venue!!!
if not i guess ill c u all sat at the club
Come on burridge!!!

Although the pitch situation is far from being ideal, lets just make sure we get the three points saturday, i can't wait for the game!

Barrie informs last night that we should be able to get a grant to carry out work on the pitch through the hampshire fa and we are also going to have two new dug-out installed shortly. So that is encouraging news. All in all we have not got a bad set up so lets make the most of it and not excuses because of the uneven surface!See you all Sat as early as possible.the gaffer
