George Best
Contrary to how you may perceive him as a person; George Best was one heck of a player. At this rate, he might not see the week out. So while we muse on his wonderful talent, I remember that Colin didn't collect the subs on Saturday - or did you Colin? Anyway, enjoy the pictures. The colour shots are of George whilst he was playing in the most glamorous league in the world - The North American Soccer League, (N.A.S.L. for short), he turned out for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers and the L.A. Aztecs.

I'm going to pay my tab this weekend. Subs from the Spartans game, plus games this Saturday and Sunday could go up to £15. Plus two bookings from last season, and one from this, equals £39.
we should pay subs before the game. why do people leave without paying? everyone knows, every week, that they have to pay £5 subs.
You're right anonypuss. Although usually I'm zoning out concentrating on the game in hand. I'll still clear my tab this weekend though, don't you worry your pretty little head about that. Only one yellow for me this year - very pleasing.
Though I must say that refereeing has been at its usual dire level this season. I know we need them blah blah blah. But it really bothers me when they dish out yellow cards for minor dicrepancies but are quite happy to let dangerous tackling go flying in.
Question: When is a push in the penalty area a free kick not a penalty?
Answer: When it's in the Meon Valley League. Obstruction, my arse!
Also, it was (how can I say this) illogical that the player who got his marching orders for Wickham Dynamos - in our previous meeting -play on Sunday, when Greg Baker was sent off in the same game for the same offence and is currently banned. Apparently the Wickham players ban doesn't begin 'til next week. Mind you, the Hants F.A. are probably involved and we all realise they don't know their elbow from their ar*eh*le.
Moan Over and out.
the vast majority didnt pay saturday, due to my having to make a quick departure on order to avoid football traffic.
George Best, his book is a must read for all footie fans. The best story i remember reading in it is the time he was laying in a hotel bed with the miss world of the time (Mary Stavin? ), an obsene amount of tenners strewn across the room and the finest champagne chilling by the bed. Room service guy came in and said "Can i ask you a question Mr Best" george nodded and said "call me George son"and the lad said " George, where did it all go wrong?"
Fantastic
Also, from watchin countless George Best videos I firmly believe had he played in as many world cups as Pele there would be absolutely no doubt who would be regarded now as the best footballer ever
Sorry for long post, but im a big Bestie fan
mark / colin do you know who we have this sat?
the bloke at work is off so i have no idea.
people doing bugle fri or sat ? or both ?
see you guys at training.
George Best certainly was a genius, im slightly disappointed i wasnt around to see his immense talents, although i have seen the videos and goals to boot. Lets hope he pulls through. My fav goal of his was the one where he lobbed the ball over the keeper and about 5 defenders from edge of 18 yard box.
See you all tonight!
I remember two great moments from video footage. One where Bestie is on a mazy thirty yard dribble against Chelsea, around '69. He's almost through on goal, before Ron 'Chopper' Harris launches into a two footed tackle, which Best elegantly side steps before cooly beating the keeper (Bonetti I presume). The other, is around the same time. Utd are playing Northampton - I think. I'm sure he's already scored 5, he rounds the keeper after a mazy run - on a real mud bath - then saunters past the keeper, smashing the ball into an empty net. Before resting on the Goalpost. What a ripper!
To think he walked away from Old Trafford at 25, after winning the League title, European Cup, and European Footballer of the Year, (Although he never graced an F.A. Cup Final).
Tommy Docherty - a bit of a tosser in my book - slung him out due to his errant ways. Man Utd - despite reaching 5 F.A. Cup Finals between 1976 & 1985 - didn't recover as a major force until their 1993 Premier League win.
Mark,
I still have a cheque from the Siberian Marathon. Any ideas on how we pay it in? Shall I just send it straight to the Wessex Cancer Trust?

I apologise for my repeated comment, its been one of those days.
Thanks rossco. I just checked the Meon Valley site, says we have Spotted Cow on Sunday!
just a thought, but does anyone know whether the saturday pitch is in a playable condition?
It was in a bad way when we played on it last.
Don't worry Dave, the cold weather's probably sorted it. Bestie only has hours to live. Very sad.
George has done well to survive the night by all accounts. He is certainly a fighter!
