LAST NIGHT

Hello folks. Thought I'd lighten the mood. Luke won two tickets to the Strokes' low key gig at London's U.L.U last night. After strapping in our borrowed Arnold Schwarzenegger voice activated satellite navigation system - we were off. And, before long in the heart of West London. No queuing up for theses boys - no sir! We strolled to the front, stated our name, got our gold wristbands and hey presto! Once in, we noticed certain luminaries in our close vicinity, there was: Simon Le Bon and John Taylor from Duran Duran (accompanied by former squeeze Amanda De Cadenet - remember The Word, pre Dani Behr), Franz Ferdinand, Razorlight, Kelly Jones from Stereophonics (a midget, not as tall as Lee Fielder), Jarvis Cocker, the two from the Mighty Boosh, and as Kev will be pleased to know: Dean Learner from Darkplace. Not to mention Chris Morris (remember The Day Today & 'Jam? He had to keep a low profile after that spoof paedophile episode; I wanted to say I tried to get my Mum too stop buying the Daily Mail after all that, by refrained). But my favourite sighting was my number one tv presenter: Sarah Cawood - get in there. As the band came on stage around ten o'clock, Luke and I noticed we were standing among the critics - busily scribbling on notepads, and Steve Lamacq - undeniably pencil thin. Other than that, I saw Sean Hughes get punched in the face while he was minding his own business talking, and some woman was hounding Luke, asking him what band he was in. Ripper!

I don't know how I forgot this, but....US tennis ace (gedditt?)Jim Courier was there too.

Give work a miss today, Lee? I just pulled into the driveway at work, accelerated hard, and then double footed the brakes - emitting a monumentally loud screech. Heads turned disapprovingly - I love it.

How long?

How long do you think you'll play football for? Obviously Lee was first to retire at 26, like Paul Lake. I'm surprised no one's sowed a loose one in our ranks. That might put pay to things; although you could always bring them to football and let Matthew look after them.

I am using this page to express my discontent at the possibility of Arry going to back to the skates! Is the guy crazy? We are know there is no future for redknapp at saints while that Hockey toff is still around, wouldnt it be funny though, if he does go and gets them relegated, just like he did us!

Dennis Wise to take over if he goes! What does everyone else think about this, i do realise it is only speculation at the moment, but as the old saying goes, there is no smoke without fire!

Yes Iceman, Boo-hiss to Harry. I couldn't get tickets to Strokes Portsmouth, got them for Brighton instead.

George Graham? Are you crazy? Mike Walker's free, or, how about Dr Josef Venglos.

Ps It appears game could well be postponed tomorrow; warthogs on pitch.

Dykey, i understand your point about Wisey's inexperience, but what about Chris Coleman? He is even younger and has done a tremendous job at Fulham im my opinion. He had no real previous managerial experience, plus wisey did a stint at Millwall.

Martin O'Neil would be quality, Mike Newell also, unfortunately he won't leave Luton im sure. I would love to see Dowie at saints, again not gonna happen.

He's finally gone, saints for league one next year anyone?

i dont get why he's done that. there must be so much s**t going on at that club to make him quit hours before a game. i really cant see him going back to pompey, would be a first tho i imagine. mark??

to be honest i cant see any manager with the tiniest shred of intelligence wanting to go to Southampton and having to work within rupert lowes ideas of how a football club should be run. how on earth can he justify the egg chasers 800 000 a year salary, more than that of the now departed redknapp and the rest of backroom staff combined!!! highest paid trainee in any business...

i reckon theres a secret plan afoot. Southampton first reality tv run football club. Viewers pick the team by phone vote each week, transfers conducted on a big brother eviction style every friday during transfer window.

Sounds ridiculous i know, but who would have predicted the farcical events of the last 8 years of rupert lowes tenureship.

Ted Bates must be turning in his grave

Col, I have to say, some of your points there are quite interesting, like you say, we are a circus act and a laughing stock at the moment, so anythings possible. My hatred towards Rupert Lowe has no bounds at the moment, Just how do the club get rid of him? Lets bring in Benali and Le tisier, get some pride and passion back into the club. My heart ruling my head here i feel!

gettin rid of 'Rupert the Share', as i believe the Ugly Inside fanzine christened him when he first took over as chairman of southampton, is no easy task. As i understand it, he is Chairman and major shareholder of Southampton Leisure Holdings, the company which did this reverse takeover of Southampton Football Club. Now i would assume, maybe wrongly, that would in fact make him untouchable as the second largest shareholder is his buddy Andrew Cowan. From where i see it, and again, i could be wrong, he is in much the same position as doug ellis at villa, and would only have to leave if a) another bidder comes in for the club and he desires to sell ( im sure the Sir David Frost consortium rumours may soon raise their not-so-ugly-to-a-saints-fans head again)
or b) his position is made so totally untenable in so much that saints fans actually boycott games en masse. however, this will have little efect on the performance of the company as a whole as most of the attendees are season ticket holders so their money is already in Ruperts wallet. Season ticket renewal time would be the best time for fans to demonstrate this in a form of protest, the sort of protest which would see the share price hammered down to its knees, and rupert having to cut his losses and go.
Lets not forget though that rupert is a businessman, and a very shrewd one at that. He knew that the only way to increase revenue and boost share prices by doing so was to get the new stadium that southampton have needed for years. That will always keep a few people on his side, he delivered where Bates, Askham et al couldnt. The only shortcoming was the location, a desperate last resort of a place to build a state of the art stadium, smack in the middle of the immediate suburbs of the city centre, the only saving grace being the profusion of ladies of the night in the immediate vicinity, able to restore a smile to your face after another dreary 1 - 1 midweek draw against some northern non-entity of a club languishing at the foot of the championship.

Boycott the megastore, that would be a start.

Boycott the social club if your a member. You'll be surprised how much they make on a Saturday and during the course of a season the effects of no customers would be severe.

Im not even a saints fan for crying out loud, but can see the damage he is doing to a club which was once, bill shankly apart, everbodies second favorite team.

Yes colin, again some very valid points made there. I agree with the whole boycotting of merchandising, but unfortunately the players don't really deserve to have the fans abandon them on matchdays, after all, its not really there faults that the club is in the mess that it is now!

Lets just pray that there is some night in shining armour out there ready to save the club from the ugly and sinister grasp of w***** Lowe.

have the authors of recent postings swallowed a dictionary - what happened to the cruse debate of nonesense material - this site is getting a bit too highbrow for me.
Colin - watch out for the gestapo with those politically motivated comments - you'd love to be manager there !!

Hope its not too late to jump in on this debate, its intriging.

Am i the only one who supports heir Lowe?

I am a football fan, but football is a business, its entertainment, its about making money. The fans of todays football teams are merely a by-product of the sport. Supporters need not go to games, soccer fans can watch all the football they want to sky. Its not long before you'll be able to buy a tv season ticket for your own club like they do in france.

Really its no different to being a fan of say, Brad Pitt. Fans of Brad Pitt pay to see his films and get the entertainment of said films. But as a fan of Brad Pitt if he makes a couple of stinkers, i'm not gonna pester him to change his manager or have a go at Brad. You accept him for what he is an entertainment product.

The point i'm trying to make is, fans make teams but no longer have the power to break teams. Lowe will do whats right ultimately for the people that matter, the shareholders. Forget me and you who refuse to pay £25 to watch Burnley they want the real money people and the sponsors. Lowe is a businessman, and fair play to him, he runs the club how he wants to run it, he makes money.

Plus i'm all for Woodward, other sports have used people from unconnected sports for years. The man is a world champion - he has achieved more than most of the people working in the premiership put together. If he can tell them a better way to tie up their boot laces he's worth being involved!

The evolution of sporting science can only occur with new ideas. Its not so long ago that players had a steak and a pint before kick off, a fag at half time and boozed all night - now thats laughable.

Give change a chance, remove the snobbery from football. There is finally a brain in football, i say lets give it a chance and reap the benefits.

as an a-level pe teacher i agree with andrews completely. woodward never did a great deal of coaching himself but he did suround himself with the best coaches and support - Saints would still have football men like Basset and Wise involved but benefit from the scientific support that Sir Clive brings. Also success breeds success and to some extent Clive has the winning habit (last Lions tour aside)

Just let me finish by saying

COME ON THE SPURS !!!
